When Apiendpoint Core opens an employer consultation in Germany, we ask a blunt question: who owns the new hire’s questions at 16:40 on day three? Silence is the usual answer. Welcome breakfasts are booked; handoffs are not.
What a handoff map contains
A useful map is one page. Columns for moment, owner, backup owner, and proof that the task finished. Moments include badge issuance, tool access confirmation, introduction to the works council contact if relevant, and the first real work assignment that is not a scavenger hunt through shared drives.
Why day three matters
Day one is ceremonial. Day three is when novelty fades and the employee notices whether the organization remembers they exist. If the buddy is in back-to-back meetings and IT tickets stall, the story they tell friends that evening is already forming.
How we facilitate it
In the Employer Onboarding Blueprint, the Signal Audit module fills the map with real friction from the last three hires. We refuse generic rows like “culture introduction.” If you cannot name a person and a timestamp, the row does not ship.
Employers sometimes worry the map looks bureaucratic. In practice it is the opposite: it removes duplicate Slack messages asking “has anyone sorted their VPN?” and frees managers to talk about the role.
